Anna Rotty

spectrals from a shoreless sea

November 08 – November 19, 2022

Reception: November 11th, 5-7PM

Strata Gallery presents a solo exhibition, spectrals from a shoreless sea, by New Mexico-based artist Anna Rotty. The exhibition opens November 8th, with a reception on Friday, November 11th from 5 - 7 p.m. The artist will give a brief talk at 6 p.m.

Anna Rotty’s photographic work explores the relationship between home, environment and memory. Embracing constant change, Anna uses photography as a tool to slow down and pay attention to what is both on the surface and buried underneath. By bending photographic prints in cascading forms, projecting light, and placing photographs as structures onto the floor, Anna creates a submersive visual experience. With collected and constructed images of landscape, this show highlights the healing qualities of water and earth.

Rotty stated, “I’m thrilled to be part of this wonderful community engaging with artists embracing experimental work here at Strata Gallery. My work is about placing attention on the nearly intangible aspects of experience, seen and unseen. Process and material are critical to my practice, and I hope viewers find something unexpected and magical in the work as well.”

Anna Rotty is pursuing her MFA in photography at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. She is originally from Massachusetts and San Francisco and has been accepted into Strata Gallery’s emerging artist cohort. Anna has exhibited at San Francisco Camerawork, Root Division and Foto Forum Santa Fe. This is Anna’s first solo show in New Mexico.
